Introducing “Ask the Hive”: A new program for the 2010 CALC Summit
Queries are due April 9, 2010!
Collaboration can be quick, easy, and fun! Come to the CALC Summit 2010 and harness the power of the collective mind of regional academic librarians. The Summit program committee is looking for librarians interested in sharing a problem, project, or work in progress, and receiving instant feedback from their colleagues gathered at the Summit. With five minutes to present, and ten minutes to receive feedback, these sessions are lightning-paced.
Here’s how it works:
1.You’ve been working on something, and you want feedback on it. It could be an unresolved problem at your library, a new system you’ve recently designed, a trend you’ve just noticed, the seed of an idea for improving services, or anything you’d like to change in academic libraries.
2. You submit your query to the Summit’s “Ask the Hive” series. We need:
- A succinct description of your query
- Your early ideas for solutions/improvements
- What sort of feedback you’re looking for
3. The program committee reviews the queries. We’ll pick the most relevant, useful, and engaging submissions and notify you if you’ve been approved to Ask the Hive. Details about accepted queries will also be posted on the CALC Summit web site in early May to give attendees a chance to study them ahead of time.
4. You give a 5-minute presentation of your query to the Hive (aka Summit attendees). Your presentation can take the form of a PechaKucha 20 x 20 style slideshow (20 slides @ 20 seconds each), a software demonstration, a video, or any other way to quickly let the audience know what you’re facing and what you need from them.
5. The Hive has 10 minutes to discuss your query and offer its collective wisdom.
6. After all the seekers have presented queries to the Hive and received their 10 minutes of feedback, we’ll open the floor up for cross-presentation discussion and spontaneous collaboration.
Queries are due April 9, 2010!
